Discovery Channel brings Reality TV to Branson

casting_image_26A new TV reality show in the works for the Discovery Channel will bring Branson to the airwaves in a new way.

According to High Noon Entertainment production company, Branson Pawn Shop (the working title for the series) is set to air this summer with eight episodes filmed at Branson Pawn on the corner of Main and Commercial streets in downtown Branson.

According to Lynn Berry with the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, High Noon posted a casting call on its website for the show, which has already filmed in Branson. The production company is expected back in Branson in late March or early April. High Noon Entertainment produces TLC’s Cake Boss and VH1′s Tough Love.

According to High Noon’s website the new series revolves around Branson Pawn Shop  and the hundreds of people and their possessions as they come to the shop. The website states, “The pawn shop personnel not only buy and sell jewelry, electronics and furs — they’ve also been known to take in cars, animals, antiques, currency, appliances, memorabilia, musical instruments and everything in between. Think of it like the History Channel’s Pawn Stars with a twist.”

The unique twist for this reality show is that customers have the chance to earn more money for their item than the pawn shop initially offers. If the customer is confident about the worth of the items they have, they can earn more by competing in a specialized trivia game against the pawn shop’s staff.

Branson has also been featured in episodes of House Hunters and Hotel Impossible among others and the movie “Winter’s Bone” was filmed in the area.

New Zipline Attraction to Open in Branson

Parakeet Pete’s Waterfront Zipline, a new attraction scheduled to open this year, will offer spectacular views of Lake Taneycomo and the Branson Landing. The board of directors for Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and the Convention and Visitors Bureau has approved the use of a portion of the Chamber’s property on Mt Branson for the zipline attraction. The developer has also secured a Division III permit from the Taney County Planning and Zoning Commission. The State Fire Marshall and other emergency agencies will be involved in the final approval process and building permits will be required for the structures to be built on the Branson Landing property.

The attraction will include a chair lift ride from the Branson Landing across Lake Taneycomo to an observation deck on the Mt Branson property. From there, patrons can enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Taneycomo and the Branson Landing area before returning to Branson Landing via a zipline or the chair lift ride. According to the Chamber of Commerce website, a video of your adventure will be included. Parking and ticket sales for the attraction would be handled on Branson Landing.

Ross Summers, president and CEO of the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, said that the view of the Adoration nativity scene displayed on Mt Branson will not be obstructed by the zipline attraction or the observation deck and the zipline will be closed during December when the nativity scene is lit. The chamber board of directors worked with the developers to assure that the long-standing tradition of the Nativity being displayed on Mt Branson will not be adversely affected by the new development.

The owners, who also operate Branson Zipline and Canopy Tours on Hwy 65 north of Branson, hope to have Parakeet Pete’s Waterfront Zipline open for business by late spring or early summer 2013.

Other ziplines operating in the Branson area include Vigilante Extreme ZipRider on the Shepherd of the Hills property, Adventure Ziplines of Branson on Wildwood Drive,  SkySurfer Thrill Ride (formerly called Moto-Zip), and Zip Line USA near Reeds Spring MO. Tickets to Vigilante Extreme ZipRider, Adventure Ziplines of Branson, and SkySurfer Thrill Ride available to Cameron’s Crag guests at special rates.

Stone Hill Winery – Branson

Stone Hill Winery - BransonMany people are unaware of Missouri’s rich wine heritage. An influx of German and Italian immigrants helped build the winemaking tradition in Missouri, the second-largest  in the nation before prohibition killed the industry. Following a resurgence in the 1960′s Missouri ranks 10th in wine production today with nearly 100 wineries and vineyards scattered across the state.

Tasting room at Stone Hill Winery

Established in 1847, Stone Hill Winery is Missouri’s oldest and most awarded winery, producing world-class vintages at locations in Hermann, New Florence, and Branson Missouri.

Although their Branson location does not include a vineyard, free tours and wine tastings have made it a popular stop for visitors and locals alike since 1986. The tour includes a short film about the winery and about winemaking as well as a visit to the aging room and the bottling area. At the end of the tour, visitors are invited to sample some of Stone Hill’s most popular products.

Located at 601 State Hwy 165 in Branson, Stone Hill Winery is just two blocks south of Hwy 76 and at the intersection of Hwy 165 and Green Mountain Drive (also known as “the yellow route” on area maps). The 12,000 sq ft facility offers more than wines for sale. You will also find a variety of wine accessories and decorative items. They offer custom laser etching on glasses, gift boxes, photo frames and other items for a one-of-a-kind wedding gift or special occasion commemorative.
